D.Technical training.
be accustomed to (doing) st
、h. approve of sb. doing sth. be worth doing 值得做……;be worthy of sth./being done值得做……;be worthy to be done 值得做……
lay out展開,擺開;lay off(暫時)解雇,裁減;lay aside 放在一邊;lay down放下,規(guī)定,制定。 Ⅱ. 12.A 13.
、of“盡管”。 14. 18. B 由句中“in the care of babysitters or nurseries”可知是將孩子留
根據(jù)前面“pressures of their work and the very brisk pace of life”可推測我們處于一個競爭非常激烈的社會。 21.A 22. D provide sb. with sth.“提供某物給某人”。 24. A 25.
29. A common to sb. Ⅲ. A
從最后一段的“Minor died in 1920, seven years before the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary was completed.”看出A選項是不正確的;從第二段的“Murray had to find volunteers from Britain, the United States, and the British colonies to search every
、newspaper, magazine, and book ever written in English. Hundreds of volunteers responded, including William Chester Minor. Dr. Minor was an American surgeon who had served in the Civil War and was now living in England.”看出牛津詞典是集體智慧的結(jié)晶,故B項不正確;由第一段最后一句中“It would include every English word possible”可知,C
從第三段的“Minor joined the army of volunteers sending words and quotations to Murray.” 從第四段的“Murray finally decided to travel to Crowthorne himself. When he arrived, he found Minor locked in a booklined cell at the Broadmoor Asylum for the
、 Criminally Insane.” 故選A。 34. 從第二段Minor自愿加入編詞典這個活動可知,他對此很感興趣,與Murray有著共同的興趣,再從文章倒數(shù)第三段的“Murray and Minor became friends, sharing their love of words. Minor continued contributing to the dictionary, sending in more than 10,000 submissions in 20 years.”
(to)be in 有“流行,時髦”之意。 come out有g(shù)ain a certain position“獲得(名次、地位)”之意。 38.B - 8 -
