It was the __1__ time in our lives that she would be gone for any length of __2__. We wondered how other people had __3__ it. Later in bed, I __4__ the time I started college. My father had driven me, too. My mother had to stay behind to __5__ the cows from getting into the crops. I, the fourth in a line of brothers, was the first to __6__ college. When you get a job, be sure to be __11__ and work hard.” I knew that soon I would be __12__ in the big city and I would be missing the life of the family. I wrote a __20__. “This can help you,” I said,“if you will let it.” 1.A.first B.last C.very D.happiest 解析:選A 女兒去上大學,“我”和妻子去送她。 2.A.while B.time C.place D.journey 解析:選B any length of time“一段時間”。 3.A.understood B.stood C.thought D.tried stand“忍受”;understand“理解”;think“認為”;try“嘗試,試圖”。 4.A.remembered B.called C.thought of D.went through go through“經(jīng)歷”。 5.A.let B.raise C.keep D.feed keep ... from doing sth.“阻止…… 6.A.take part in B.go away to C.begin with D.continue with 解析:選B go away to college即go to college, away表示越過一段距離。take part in“參加”;begin with“以……開始”;continue with“繼續(xù)”。 7.A.my daughter’s college B.my home C.the city D.the farm 8.A.speech B.living C.promise D.progress 解析:選A “But”一詞的運用,說明了前后的轉(zhuǎn)折,他一句話也不說,但“我”知道他要對“我”說點什么。make a living“謀生”;make a promise“允諾”;make progress“取得進步”。 9.A.some B.one C.none D.a(chǎn)ll 解析:選C “never ... and”可提示此題答案。前文“I, the fourth in a line of brothers, was the first to __6__ college.” 10.A.happen B.end C.take in D.break out 解析:選A happen與break out都作“發(fā)生”講,然而break out側(cè)重于(戰(zhàn)爭、火山的)突然爆發(fā),因此不合題意。take in“吸收,利用,理解,欺騙”。 11.A.lively B.hard C.reasonable D.honest 解析:選D 本空依據(jù)上下文邏輯關(guān)系得出,與后文“and work hard”順接。lively“充滿活力的”;hard“硬的,難的”;reasonable“合理的”;honest“誠實的”。 12.A.happy B.a(chǎn)lone C.sure D.lost 13.A.bought B.read C.loved D.given 解析:選B 空后的“so often”決定此題答案。 14.A.if B.unless C.which D.though 解析:選A 文章末尾的“’This can help you,’ I said, ’if you will let it.’” unless“除非”;though“雖然”。 15.A.keep B.return C.post D.sell 解析:選A 他說他想讓“我”保管這本書。 16.A.popular B.strange C.ready D.nice popular“受歡迎的”;strange“奇怪的”;ready“有準備的”。 17.A.something B.everything C.a(chǎn)nything D.nothing 18.A.only B.really C.surely D.very 解析:選A “我”能給孩子所需要的一切(物質(zhì)的)東西,父親給“我”的只是一本《圣經(jīng)》。 19.A.much B.many C.far D.good 解析:選A 但“我”認為“我”給女兒的不及當時父親給“我”的一半。 position“作文”;speech“演講”;word“單詞”;note“便條,紙條”。 Ⅱ. I left university with a good degree in English Literature, but no sense of what I wanted to do. Over the next six years, I_was_treading_water,_just trying to earn an ine. I tried journalism, but I didn’t think I was any good, then finance, which I hated. Finally, I got a job as a rights assistant at a famous publisher. I loved working with books, although the job that I did was dull. I had enough savings to take a year off work, and I decided to try to satisfy a deepdown wish to write a novel. Attending a Novel Writing MA course gave me the structure I needed to write my first 55,000 words. It takes confidence to make a new start — there’s a dark period inbetween where you’re neither one thing nor the other. You’re out for dinner and people ask what you do, and you’re too ashamed to say, “Well, I’m writing a novel, but I’m not quite sure if I’m going to get there.” My confidence dived. Believing my novel could not be published, I put it aside. Then I met an agent (代理商) who said I should send my novel out to agents. So, I did and, to my surprise, got some wonderful feedback. I felt a little hope that I might actually bee a published writer and, after signing with an agent, I finished the second half of the novel. The next problem was finding a publisher. After twoandahalf years of no ine, just waiting and wondering, a publisher offered me a book deal — that publisher turned out to be the one I once worked for. It feels like an unbelievable stroke of luck — of fate, really. When you set out to do something different, there’s no end in sight, so to find myself in a position where I now have my own name on a contract (合同) of the publisher — to be a published writer — is unbelievably rewarding (有回報的). 1.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 1 mean? A.I was waiting for good fortune. B.I was trying to find an admirable job. C.I was being aimless about a suitable job. D.I was doing several jobs for more pay at a time. 根據(jù)前后文“but no sense of what I wanted to do”“just trying to earn an ine. I tried journalism, ... then finance, which I hated. Finally, I got a job ... C。 2.The author decided to write a novel ________. A.to finish the writing course B.to realize her own dream C.to satisfy readers’ wish D.to earn more money 解析:選B 細節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)第二段話“I decided to try to satisfy a deepdown wish to write a novel”可知作者決定寫小說的目的只是滿足自己內(nèi)心深處的愿望,實現(xiàn)自己的夢想。 B。 3.How did the writer feel halfway with the novel? A.Disturbed. B.Ashamed. C.Confident. D.Uncertain. 根據(jù)文章第三段話“It takes confidence to make a new start”“My confidence dived”“Believing my novel could not be published, I put it aside”及本段敘述了作者回答別人問題時提到“I’m writing a novel, but I’m not quite sure if I’m going to get there”可知,此時她的感覺應該是還不完全確定她現(xiàn)在是否還要繼續(xù)寫她的小說。 D。 4.What does the author mainly want to tell readers in the last paragraph? A.It pays to stick to one’s goal. B.Hard work can lead to success. C.She feels like being unexpectedly lucky. D.There is no end in sight when starting to do something. 本段作者表達她剛剛開始時“there’s no end in sight”到后來的“an unbelievable stroke of luck”“to be a published writer — is unbelievably rewarding (有回報的)”是想要告訴讀者,堅持自己的目標是值得的,總會碰到運氣的降臨。 Ⅰ. Johnny Carson began his career in television __1__ his twenties. The boy received a very good education and twenty years later he became doctor. In his hospital, he has a patient, who was an old lady. He didn’t care too much about her, for she could hardly afford for the medical care. One evening, the lady died quietly of a serious illness and on her bed the doctor found a letter, in it he discovered the truth and felt the love of a great mother. He wanted to call her “mom”, and it was too late. Everybody in the theatre was moving to tears. 答案:第一句:it→which或it前加and 第二句:sons→son 第三句:very→so; which→who/that 第四句:在doctor前加a 第五句:has→had 第六句:去掉afford后的for 第七句:it→which 第八句:and→but 第九句:moving→moved Ⅲ. 參考詞匯:《赤壁》 Red Cliff 軍師strategist 赤壁之戰(zhàn)Battle of Chibi 結(jié)盟ally ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ 參考范文: As the first film to recreate Battle of Chibi, John Woo’s Red Cliff is a masterpiece.
