2、Puerto Rico,to always put on sunscreen,not to wander away from my grandmother,and other warnings. She helped me pack and did not leave the airport until she saw my plane take off. But despite her worries,she let me go on my own. As I moved into my teens,she continued to give me space to grow an

3、d learn,even when it might have been difficult for her. When I reached my senior year,I decided to move away for college. Once again I found that I differed from my peers:While many of them wanted to stay close to home,I couldn’t wait to be out in the world on my own. While my mom may not have been

4、happy at the thought of my going away,she was supportive and excited for me. One big thing I realized during my senior year,as my mom granted me more freedom,was that she actually believes in me and trusts me. That means a lot. Most of my life,and especially when I was little,the main person I

5、tried to impress in my schoolwork or other things was my mother. I knew she expected nothing but the best from me. Sometimes it was hard to live up to her standards;getting a single B on my report card would make me feel bad because I knew she wanted me to have all A’s. I know that her high sta

6、ndards have helped me stay focused on what’s important,like education,and made me who I am. I am thankful for her support and involvement in my life .Most of all I respect her. When we use other people as the measuring stick for our personal success and quality of life we are likely to be less satisfied.Social comparisons can provide useful information when we t

14、ry to learn from others, but they also hold our perspective in a discontented position.Compare yourself less with others so you can be satisfied more. When you are focused on your big ambitions and future goals you might elide the daily pleasures that surround you.Learn to slow down and absorb

There is a recent report on warmer temperatures' negative effects on plankton, the base of the marine ecosystem. Warmblooded animals weren't immune from the size change caused by climate change. Many birds are no

23、w smaller. Mammals have been miniaturized too. Soay sheep are thinner. Red deer are weaker. And polar bears are smaller, compared with historical records. This is not the first time this has happened in Earth's history. 55 million years ago, a warming event similar to the current climate change cau

24、sed bees, spiders and ants to shrink by 50 to 75 percent over several thousand years. That event happened over a long time than the current climate change. The speed of modern climate change could mean organisms may not respond or adapt quickly enough, especially those with long generation times. S
